1. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. A sequel to the base game StarCraft, which received worldwide recognition in 1998, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released on July 27, 2010 under the same developer, Blizzard Entertainment. The StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a military science fiction strategy video game, is set in the 26th century in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy. If you had played StarCraft: Brood War before then the experience in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is set four years after and the return of the three main species of StarCraft.
The game revolves around three species: the Terrans, the Zerg, and the Protoss. The Terrans are the human exiles from Earth. On the other hand, the Zerg is the super species of assimilated lifeforms, and the Protoss are the technologically advanced species that have cosmic mental powers.
2. Rome: Total War. This PC strategy game developed by The Creative Assembly was released on September 22, 2004 but was reborn on February 5, 2010 when its Mac OS X version was released. The campaign storyline is set during the early Roman Empire, where victory against an autocratic government is fought for.
Players are expected to strategize in order to conquer, rule, and manipulate the entire Roman Empire and be declared the Emperor. Rome: Total War was PC Gamer and GameSpot editor’s choice for Strategy Game of 2004.
3. Game of Thrones: Genesis. The game is the first of its kind to be a video game adaptation of a book, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. This fantasy PC strategy game was released on September 29, 2011, five months after its television series adaptation was released in April of the same year. Aside from its earned popularity through the novel and TV series, the Game of Thrones: Genesis has become impressive for gamers due to its espionage system of combat rather than outright warfare.
